You Shouldn't Duck Your Dad on Father's Day... or Should You?
6.11.16
Father's Day is upon almost upon us, and what better way to show how much you care than with the Father's Day version of our iconic duck? OK, there may be a few better ways, but there are no Duck Logic-ier ways to tell him how you feel.
Maybe a nice framed print, or a fluffy throw pillow? No? How about a comfortable t-shirt or a cherish-able coffee mug? Hmmm. Then how about maybe... a sticker? Everybody loves stickers. Most everybody, anyway. Ah hell, just go take a gander at all the possibilities by hitting the button directly below:

Our 32nd Anniversary Celebration Starts On Cyber Monday!!!!!!
11.29.15
2016 will be our 32nd Anniversary! So we've decided to celebrate in a big way! Why? Well we've already passed the 25th, and we don't have the patience to wait for the 50th, so the 32nd Anniversary Celebration it is!
We're celebrating by offering limited edition, classic and rare, collectible Duck Logic designs from our past on t-shirts, mugs, greeting cards etc.. all year long!
These ducks were part of our promotional campaigns when we were doing live shows in the 80s and early 90s. They would grace postcards that told fans, reviewers and entertainment writers where they could come out and see us on any given weekend. And... they've never been offered in any other form…. until now!
So for every major holiday, and a few that aren't, during the next year we'll offer a limited edition design that will be available only until the next one comes.
There are at least 12 ducks in all, and we may design a few new ones just for the fun of it…. plus we'll also be offering bonus designs that fit the mood of the holiday duck in question.

Duck Logic Mentioned in Chicago Magazine -
Thanks to Bob Odenkirk And "A Bald Man's Braids!"
2.3.15
In an article about Bob Odenkirk's rise to fame as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad in the February 2015 issue of Chicago Magazine, titled "What About Bob?" our name gets dropped, as well as DL member Tim Thomas. Thanks Bob, and Thanks Chicago Magazine! Bob was a member of Duck Logic back when we had a show on The LOOP AM1000 called The Duck Logic Comedy Cavalcade. |
In the article Bob's time with us is mentioned as a point in his writing career where he blossomed
"which made him feel unshackled, able to try anything that popped into
his head." And a bit called "A Bald Man's Braids" was cited as proof of that
point. For our money Bob was unshackled and wrote and performed many wildly funny and thought provoking bits during his time with the Cavalcade. We've enjoyed watching his movement upwards in the comedy business ever since.
For those interested we've posted "A Bald Man's Brains" below for your listening pleasure.
And you can read the whole article at: http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/February-2015/Bob-Odenkirk/
(Sorry but for some reason Chicago Magazine won't seem to allow a link directly to this page, but copy and paste will get you there! - D)
Good luck with "Better Call Saul" Bob, we're rooting for you!

DUCK LOGIC IN A BOOK??!!?! Yep, Stand-Up Comedy In Chicago!!!!

10.17.14
The coveted five-quack salute goes out to Vince Vieceli and Bill Brady!!!! Thanks to them we appear in their book Stand-Up Comedy In Chicago, a volume of Arcadia Publishing's Images Of America series.
A treasure trove of information for anyone interested in the comedy club boom in Chicago from 1970 to 1990. It almost functions like a college yearbook for us, but it would be just as good a read for someone who attended the clubs.
More than that though, its larger appeal is that it lets you take a look at how the scene progressed through the eyes of those who were there and made it happen. Plus it's well written and filled with behind-the-scenes gems of info that even some of the people in the book probably didn't know about!
We're proud and pleased to be included. Thanks for acknowledging our little corner of Chicago's comedy club world, guys, we appreciate it!
Check it out HERE.

Duck Logic Under Surveillance in Wisconsin!

9.21.14
Every year for quite some time, the guys in Duck Logic visit Wisconsin, courtesy of Walter. There's a house in La Crosse on Lake Onalaska (connected to the Mississippi river) that he grew up in during the summers. We all listen to him relive some of those memories while we establish new ones as a group… boating, singing around the fire, tipping a few back, grilling out, Wii Bowling and just generally relaxing.
This year is the first year we've done the "tourist" thing by driving the long winding road to the top of Grandad Bluff to check out its scenic overlook. It's one of those spots that's gone from "nifty place on the hill that everybody knows about" to a fully built in and established "public space" with a brick pavilion including two fireplaces for officially sanctioned fun.
There's a matching brick restroom and a sidewalk covered path that leads to a row of 50-cents-a-view binoculars. Another little path leads to a second view site. The gift shop must still be in the planning stages.
Our group selfie was taken at that second spot. There's a really great view of the three states region. Pretty nice actually. And there's a bar at both the bottom of the mountain as well as one halfway up that winding road. Never mind that the reason for the overlook is to commemorate the first complete Christian service held in La Crosse. Wisconsin knows its residents! We probably should have talked ourselves into this years ago.
There was one unexpected thing worth mentioning. As we approached the place from the parking lot we were confronted with a short metal post. About three feet tall. Looking much like the ones lining either side of the path to the lookout area with lighting, but this one was directly in the middle of the sidewalk.

Looking much like the ones lining either side of the path to the lookout area with lighting, but this one was directly in the middle of the sidewalk.

All the other bluff visitors shuffled right by it without a second glance, oblivious to its warning. We stopped in our tracks, taking not one, but two pictures and giving it just a little time to sink in, that here in the great outdoors, in this little sanitized area of Mother Nature, we were being "surveilled."
That's right, we weren't just "on camera," this area was "under video surveillance," which sounds much more ominous, doesn't it? That didn't stop us from checking out what Grandad Bluff had to offer, but it did kinda put a little undercurrent of weirdness to it.
It sorta felt as though we should be performing something for whoever it was that would end up being this video's audience. I definitely spent too much time trying to find exactly where the hidden cameras were hiding. With no luck, incidentally.
So I sure as heck didn't use the restrooms. Because a line from our latest song "Every Post You Make (We're The NSA)" kept running through my head:
"Every whiz you take... we'll be watching you…."

Our good buddies from Davenport Johnson have helped out on one of the songs for our upcoming EP "Duck Logic Comedy presents: Holiday Hokum." And it's coming so soon we can actually taste it! And it's leaving a faint pepperminty quality in the back of our throats.
Timothy Jay plays rhythm guitar and Chris Was plays bass on "The Fruitcake Song (I Hate Fruitcake)." A great time was had by all when we dropped by their recording studio and laid down this little seasonal nugget about receiving the annual "cake." They feel like we do about those baked **$#!*& doorstops, so we all clicked and the song came pouring out.
We even brought along a hard block of the stuff left over from last year for inspiration, which may have been going to far, as we swear we heard Timothy mumble under his breath, "Geez, really? A frickin' fruitcake?"
If you like what you hear be sure to visit their site and check out their EP, "Squinch" right here, nice stuff. They're currently working on their second outing, a full CD called "Constellation"." We told them they were welcome to put "The Fruitcake Song" on their CD as well if they like, and they politely turned us down. Frickin' Davenport.

In the interest of full disclosure, our own Dave-id Dunlosky is the lead ukulele player for Davenport Johnson. But don't let that stop you from checking them out anyway. They're good, and often make sounds not usually associated with the diminutive instrument. Rock, folk and jazz on boys! We're diggin' it!

Joe, The Love Potato Back In Recliner Again!

8.25.13
We're sending a virtual fruit basket to our friend at Comedy 101 Radio, who added our "Joe, The Love Potato" video to his Facebook page. We're giddy as little kids about it!
Atta boy, Michael, you da man! You are clearly a nut, behind a wheel or not!
AND if you haven't already, get over there and give 'em a big lo' "LIKE!"
We did… we're glad… and how! You will be too!

"It's The Real World (After ALL)" Heard on: Comedy 101 radio!

7.25.13
Comedy 101 Radio played "Its The Real World (After All)" last night. According to Michael Davidson "The Nut Behind The Wheel," it was "loved by all." Well, we love you for that Michael, thanks for giving it some air, it was getting kinda musty in that old box we were keeping it in.
And if you're looking for a one-stop comedy archive we highly recommend giving his site a look-see and his radio show a listen. He's got a funny, informative blog, and a host of links to everything comedy. Check him out at: Comedy 101 Radio!

3.14.13
We're proud to announce our first NEW recording in over 23 years ! Featuring every one of the members of the group, it's "Green Beer," a little ditty about the annual onslaught of the "temporary Irish" upon local bars across the nation.
You can hear it on the Fortnight Features From beFore page!
We hope you enjoy hearing it as much as we did making it, and remember... listen responsibly!

THIS day in duck logic history!

3.2.13
I hope you heard a huge orchestra playing a very big ta-da while reading that headline, I certainly did while writing it.
Because this is truly a historic day for Duck Logic Comedy - Dr. Demento played "(Breakfast with ) Joe, The Love Potato" again on a food themed show in an all spud segment!
A tip of the bill to our good friend Scott May who let us know it was aired! Whatever rock we've been living under kept us from even knowing the doctor was on the internet airwaves. Sometimes ducks are dinks.
And a big THANKS to you, Dr. D, for dragging out that Duck Logic bit and putting it on again, we can't be grateful enough for your on-going support! It's always a huge honor!
If you want to be part of all the kookiness that is Dr. Demento give him a virtual visit at : http://www.drdemento.com

CONGRATULATIONS TO WALTER!

Open Heart Blog has moved to ChicagoNow, an on-line community of bloggers managed by Tribune Media Group*…
Open Heart Blog is written by Duck Logic’s very own Walter Michka as he tries to make sense of life after a near-fatal heart attack. It’s weekly stories, observations, and information for people of a certain age at: www.chicagonow.com/open-heart
As Walter puts it: “Over four years ago, a team of surgeons cracked me open like a fortune cookie, performed a quadruple bypass, and saved my life. The physical recovery part went well. The psychological part? I’m still kind of working on that.”
Over a half million men and women have heart surgery every year. At least one third of them suffer some degree of post-procedure depression. Walter started seeing a psychologist and together they worked through issues surrounding his operation, then went beyond. After several years of therapy, she set him off on his own. Open Heart Blog is the continuation of Walter’s recovery, you might say, the week-to-week part he’s doing all by himself.
